Neil Patrick Harris Will Star in Netflix Series "A Series of Unfortunate Events"

Netflix has decided to recreate Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, with Neil Patrick Harris starring as Count Olaf. The first on screen adaption of the book series had Jim Carrey playing the famous villain. Although the film had a big name actor like Carrey, it did not see the box office success that was anticipated. Now, Netflix is hoping to give the story another shot.

The story follows orphaned siblings; Sunny, Klaus, and Violet Baudelaire after they lose their parents in a house fire. Neil’s character, Count Olaf, is their estranged relative that is after the Baudelaire’s fortune. While dodging Count Olaf’s attempts to steal their family’s money, the children are on a mission to solve the mystery of their parents’ death and what caused the fire.  The stories are narrated by author Lemony Snicket and the series contains 13 books.

The series will be produced by Paramount and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Barry is well known for directing Men in Black and The Addams Family. It is also projected that filming will start in Vancouver this month.

There is no telling how they will approach the story this time around. The costuming in the original 2004 movie were Oscar nominated and Count Olaf is a master of disguise so we have high hopes for what Netflix will do. We can’t wait to see Neil Patrick Harris bring Count Olaf to life once again and what kind of mischief he will get himself and the Baudelaire children into. The series is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
