Six of the best Ellie Goulding songs

Since bursting onto the music scene in 2010, Ellie Goulding has released hit after hit, becoming one of the most successful female artists in the UK. Her unique voice and raw talent are unmistakable and she’s an artist that is universally loved.

In celebration of the release of her third album Delirium tomorrow, CelebMix takes a look back at six of the best songs by the lovely Ellie.

Starry Eyed

Starry Eyed was the song that really kicked off Ellie’s career. After being signed by Polydor in 2009, Ellie released her debut EP which led to her winning the Critics Choice Awards at The Brit Awards. She then released Starry Eyed from her first full length album Lights, which was her first song to get commercial recognition.

Talking about the song to Digital Spy, Ellie said “It’s about letting go. As opposed to all the sad and depressing things I write about, I decided to write something about the joining together of people in some kind of euphoric state—be it at a festival, at a show or in a club.”

The Writer

The Writer is one of Ellie’s most underrated songs. It’s a gorgeous song about “how you’d do anything and change absolutely everything about yourself if necessary, just to be noticed by this one person”. Ellie’s haunting vocals really stand out on this beautiful ballad.

Burn

This was Ellie’s first number one single in the UK, and was the lead single from her reissued album Halycon Days. The song is so catchy and stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks in a row. The song was originally recorded by fellow UK songstress Leona Lewis, but was replaced for more ballads.

I Need Your Love

Okay so technically this is Calvin Harris’ song, however the vocals are all Ellie and it’s such a great song, we HAD to include it. Ellie’s vocals and Calvin’s beats is a superb combination.

Calvin and Ellie are no strangers to collaborating, also releasing the brilliant Outside which was a massive hit. They make a fab team!

Love Me Like You Do

Love Me Like You Do featured on the soundtrack of 50 Shades of Grey, one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year. The song gave Ellie world wide recognition, spending four weeks at number 1 in the UK as well as topping the charts in various countries including Australia, Germany and New Zealand. It also held the record for the most-streamed track in a single week in the UK!

On My Mind

On My Mind is Ellie’s latest track and the lead song from Delirium. Some have speculated that the song is an answer song to Ed Sheeran’s Don’t although Ellie has shut down rumours, stating “I’m sorry to all the people that want it to be about someone — it’s not, it’s like a myth. I like guys with tattoos, my boyfriend has tattoos…but I don’t mind. People can read into it however they want. It’s fun to do that, I would do that too.”

Nonetheless, the song is brilliant and will definitely be on your mind (!!!) for days!
