The Most Overpaid Celebrities in Hollywood

The 40th Annual People's Choice Awards - Show

Celebrities make an astounding amount of money. If one wanted to make the argument they could say that all celebrities are overpaid. On the other hand, celebrities are responsible for generating incredible amounts of revenue thus are they overpaid?

Well, there are some celebrities that are in fact overpaid. What makes a celebrity overpaid? Perhaps they are getting paid an amount similar to a peer yet their work is far less in quality. Perhaps a celebrity is getting paid a ridiculous amount and we deem it to be unjustified, or we could just simplify it – their returns on investment are weak.

Either way, we put together a list of our Most Overpaid Celebrities……

Howard Stern – $95 Million

Most of Howard Stern’s money comes from his own network on Sirius/XM radio. He also brings in $15 million from judging America’s Got Talent. Stern is a pioneer, there is no doubt about that, but he’s making $95 million a year, which means there are still people out there that listen to his show. It just seems like Stern is so ten years ago. The fact he’s making $15 mil for judging America’s Got Talent is the steal of the century.

Katherine Heigl – $20 Million

You read that correctly, Katherine Heigl made around a combined $20 million last year. Heigl is returning $3.50 for every $1 paid. She actually has a decent portfolio of businesses in which she has an ownership stake, but her acting is an entirely different story. Heigl was once coined the romantic comedy sweetheart, but that was short-lived and now she struggles to get parts because her salary demands are so high. At least she made the most of her period of popularity.

"Life Of Crime" Premiere - Arrivals - 2013 Toronto International Film Festival

Jennifer Aniston – $20 Million

Jennifer Aniston doesn’t have to work another day in her life thanks to Friends, but that doesn’t stop her from churning out movies. Every now and then she makes a quality movie, but for the most part you aren’t going to see Aniston in any blockbusters. In fact, she takes pay cuts to appear in movies like We’re the Millers and Horrible Bosses, and Wanderlust was a total disaster. Regardless, Aniston still has a nice endorsement profile.

Matt Damon – $24 Million

It’s strange to think Matt Damon could be on this list when he’s made so many wonderful films. After the Ocean and Bourne movies Damon has struck out at the box office. His latest films have been pretty lackluster. Behind the Candelabra and Elysium were weak, but because he’s Matt Damon he demands a healthy pay day. It’ll be interesting to see how his new movie with George Clooney, The Monuments Men, does – it has an awesome cast. Perhaps Damon is due for a rebound.

Adam Sandler – $37 Million

Adam Sandler is a good guy so it’s not really fair to blast him, but it’s hard not to. Sandler is earning $3.40 for every dollar paid, which is poor to say the least. His more recent movies have been pretty lackluster. Just Go With It was pretty decent, but Jack & Jill and That’s My Boy were atrocious. Sandler will be on the most overpaid list for a while until he hits a home run like he did back in the day.

Ryan Reynolds Attends 'Boss Bottled' 15th Anniversary in Madrid

Ryan Reynolds – $18 Million

Reynolds had a tough year at the box office. R.I.P.D. and Turbo were disappointments at the box office. Still, Reynolds has been a part of some strong movies like The Croods. It’s hard to imagine that anyone in Hollywood knows what Reynolds excels at when it comes to making movies. Either way, he does have name recognition and because of that you have to pay him to get him.

Channing Tatum – $60 Million

We’re sorry ladies, but Channing Tatum is one of Hollywood’s most overpaid celebrities. Tatum has gotten movie roles because of his looks not his acting. He invested $7 million into Magic Mike and is making a killing off business opportunities from the movie. It’s pretty incredible. We’re not slamming Tatum’s acting because the guy is actually one heck of a businessman. Unfortunately, when it comes to paying him for movies it’s too much.

Human Rights Watch Voices For Justice Dinner

Ashton Kutcher – $24 Million

Look at the past three actors on this list – good looking guys with limited acting ability. Kutcher rode the coat tails of Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men to become TV’s highest paid actor. The show loses audience numbers annually, which is one reason why you have to include Kutcher on the list. He has done well in investing his money in the tech world and has a nice endorsement with Cannon.

Kim Kardashian Celebrates Her Birthday At Tao Nightclub

Kim Kardashian – $10 Million

We’re not sure why anyone pays Kardashian anything, but she makes $10 million a year. What does she do? Keeping Up With the Kardashians is failing miserably and most likely won’t be continued. She doesn’t get endorsements anymore. If her store does well then good for her, but we can’t see anyone paying her after this year.

Angelina Jolie – $33 Million

If you look at Angelina’s recent movies you don’t see a good movie in years. Now we know Jolie gets money from a dozen other places, but why does she keep getting paid serious money to do movies. Changeling, Salt, The Tourist all those movies were terrible. We’re curious to see how her new Disney movie Maleficent does.
